As we have previously discussed, there are many different styles of mountain bikes and hopefully by now you have a clear(er) idea of what kind of bike you want to get. But the decision making process is not over yet. You have the size of the wheels to consider as well. You have the 26 and the 29 to choose from.
The bigger wheel allows you to ride with a lower tire pressure so the wheel will absorb the holes and bumps on a trail and gives considerably more grip. The downside of this is that the 29er mountain bikes have more rotating weight than the 26-inch wheels.
Many people think that 29er mountain bikes out perform the more expensive dual-suspension bikes with 26-inch wheels. This is because of their stability in technical situations. Others prefer the more expensive dual-suspension mountain bikes because the suspension is tunable and can be adjusted to suit a riding situation, where as a 29er cannot. Ask somebody at the bike shop what wheel size they think will be best suited to the style of riding you are going to be doing.
