Finally you see it, your dream motorcycle for sale. But before you part with your hard earned money, you need to carefully inspect the bike so that your dream is not going to swiftly turn into a nightmare.
If you do not know much about bikes, it is a good idea to take someone with you that does. Many motorcycles for sale can have problems that an untrained eye would not notice. But there are certain things that even someone who does not know the first thing about mechanics could notice.
First of all take a look at the odometer. Does the reading match the condition of the bike? Next, take a look for rust spots and scratches. Scratches are mainly cosmetic and do not necessarily need to influence your decision. It is however, vitally important that you look at the top of the foot pegs. This is a great way to spot how hard the bike has been ridden. When the foot pegs are worn, this means that the bike has seen a lot of miles. When the foot pegs are worn on the bottom, this means that the rider is leaning too far into the corner. A cracked seat and oxidized paint are also indicators of misuse.
When you start up the bike for the first time, check for smoke coming out of the exhaust. There should be a minimal amount. If you see a lot of smoke or the bike is hard to start, you should look elsewhere. These tips are a good starting point when you are looking at a motorcycle for sale. If you are in any doubt, do not buy it. Instead, return with someone who understands bikes.
